Celosia is not a commonly known flower. It has large petals with intricate, dense folds, and a texture that could only be described as fuzzy. With many petals together it resembles a structure similar to the human brain. I never would have discovered it myself if it were not for a trip to my local farmers market, where I was immediately entranced.
When I was given a textured cut of fabric by my instructor to print on my junior year at the University of Michigan Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design I knew I had to create an ode to Celosia.
This fabric is a hand drawn original pattern & printed by hand. The folds of the skirt mimic the depth of the flower it was inspired by. The irregular hem was also stitched by hand.
Celosia was featured in the juried Undergraduate Exhibition, 2012.
