The Language of Critique

This piece was designed to question the effectiveness of critique at the art school. The skirt is made from a book, "The Critique Handbook" that is given to all first year students, which most first year students choose not to read. In effect, they have dismantled critique into being ineffective and chaotic. What people need are undiluted, honest feedback.

The skirt, made from The Critique Handbook, juxtaposes the simple, straightforward top, making students question the way they speak about art.

This piece was a prize winner in the 2011 All Student Exhibition at the University of Michigan Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design.
